FC Halifax Town: “He’s an excellent addition to our staff” says Wild on strength and conditioning coach Simpson

Simpson will combine his role with Town, for two days a week, with his job as strength and conditioning coach at Bradford Bulls. “He did bits with us last year, but what I thought we were lacking was somebody, as well as the physio, to ensure that the gym and physical programmes were better,” said Wild. “It’s no fault of Adam’s, we only contracted him to one day a month. “But fair play to the chairman, he’s allowed me to contract Adam to two days a week, which means we now have somebody on site to drive the gym and nutrition programmes, to drive the physical programmes and to ensure not only that we’re fit, but we’re robust as well. “The programmes he’s putting in place for the players are to make sure that not only are they getting fit but they stay fit. “He’s been a real addition to the group and I’m really pleased he’s on board and I thank the chairman for allowing me to do that.” Explaining what Simpson’s role will be behind-the-scenes, Wild said: “He drives all the physical programme, he works with me and Milly (Chris Millington) on types of kilometres per day we need to get into the players, sizes of areas we’ll need to get those kilometres out, and that allows me and Milly to look at the sessions that will get those physical outcomes. “I’d like to think there’s more of a joined-up approach between the staff this year, through no fault of their own, just through learning and being able to have different bodies around the place. “He’s an excellent addition to our staff and I’m really pleased I was allowed to bring him in. “Players need different things at different times. Some players will need strength programmes, some will need to work nutritionally to ensure they maintain their levels longer and some will need to have mobility programmes that ensure that their bodies remain in peak form. “He gives that individual touch to us and gives us that chance to bring that department of the club back up to where it should be. “I needed more time with the players, I needed to get the players in more and when I get them in more, it’s important I use that time wisely. “One of the big areas I’ve been able to develop and make better is the sports science department and I’m really pleased with Adam, his knowledge and what he’s brought to us in such a short space of time.” Wild feels he has put his own stamp on different areas of the club this summer, both on and off the pitch. “The things I could change in the summer was recruitment, budget strategy and the time I spent with the players and what I got into the players,” he said. “I’ve been quite vocal about that and I’ve gone out and done it because they’re the things I can change. “I’ve recruited in a way where the budget now is more comparable and we’ve got a lot more experience in the group. “I’ve also changed the training programme and brought in players that want to do things my way. “Hopefully you’re seeing that.
